Carolina State Senator who

introduced the South

Carolina--Israel Friendship

Resolution

One very recent example of Orly Benny Davis’ efforts was the introduction in the U.S. House of Representatives of a resolution to recognize the 40th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem.

Working with Congressman Joe Wilson of South Carolina (R), Mrs. Davis helped draft House Concurrent Resolution 131 and secured 70 co-sponsors for the bill.  The bill was introduced on April 25, 2007.

Congressman Tom Lantos of California (D) introduced House Concurrent Resolution 152 a similar resolution on May 22, 2007.  That bill had 13 co-sponsors.  With the Democrats in charge of the House, the Lantos bill was pushed forward and approved by the House.

Although the original bill languished in committee, the objective was achieved:  Recognition by the US of the 40th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem.

Orly Benny Davis promoted and coordinated a resolution (S1263) honoring the special friendship between South Carolina and Israel and facilitated the visit of Ambassador Reda Mansour.

Orly Benny Davis facilitated the visit of Mr. Fini who is now the President of the Italian “Camera del Deputati”.  This coordinated effort was the start of a new day in the relationship between Israel and Italy.  Read An Open Letter to the Jewish World from the Honorable Marco Zacchera of the Italian Foreign Affairs Department.
